Metalcost S.p.A. is born in 1962 in the suburb of Arcola where some businessmen of La Spezia built us a workshop for steel handling and construction basically dedicated to the building of industrial structures and naval blocks. In the 70th, to complete an important order, the company purchase an area on the river Magra close to the sea, where one slipwayway was already established; here were completed the first barges for harbour and hoffshore activity. Meantime the initial area were enlarging, by merging with Main Shipyard's entry
the neighbour shipyard Euormare, then with three slipways for ships erection, parallely the construction of ships was developped with such a continuity that, at the end of 80th years, many operators were comparing the Metalcost activity to the one of the main Japaneese shipyard. In this period the Company joined the Private Shipyard National Associations called "A.N.CA.NA.P." and was registered on:

Then at the end of 80th years Metalcost became one of the most important production unit in Italy, with private resourses and sufficient infrastuctures to assure high production and good quality. The delivery of the last chemical tankers became the celebration of high tecnology combined efficient infrastructures and organization. Actually the production is developped in two different areas as follows:

PREFABBRICATION WORKSHOP

The factory extension is about 9.000 sqm of which 3.000 sqm covered, used a steel workshop, stores and wharehouse, all of them equipped with sufficient distribution of electric power, compressed air, propane, oxigen, fresh water and fire fighting.

The production facilities comprise:
  • electric cabin for transformers (from high to low voltage, 800 KVA)

MANPOWER

Direct employes of the yard are about 50 workers, most of them involved in services and support works to prepare the conditions for production. Workers for prefabbrication, welding and outfitting are basically subcontracted fron local external companies. Anyhow the working procedures and building standards fully comply with the rules of the most important Classification Societies like RINA, ABS, BV, DNV, LR, etc.
